EDITORIAL POLICY AND GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS

Narrativas Antropológicas, an electronic journal of the Directorate of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of INAH, publishes unpublished and original works, written in Spanish or any of the national languages. It accepts articles and visual essays addressing topics in ethnology, social anthropology, and ethnography. The spirit of the journal emphasizes the profound sense that animates both disciplines: it privileges the comprehensive understanding of the human being (anthropos) and as a social collective (ethnos). The journal aims to be a space for researchers to "refer," "bring," and "return" ethnographic knowledge through their own "narratives."

Contributions are sought that refer to moments or situations in which the anthropologist is both a witness and a participant, aiming to transmit and disseminate what has been observed. Reflections on what the everydayness of human existence means for both the research subjects and the anthropologist are also welcomed. Therefore, descriptive or interpretive accounts of reality are accepted, from any analytical proposal.

Narrativas Antropológicas encourages the publication of texts whose genesis and elaboration reflect the peculiar characteristics of anthropological knowledge production, emphasizing the evident connection of theoretical elaboration with ethnographic experience and fieldwork, the search for direct sources, or the ethnographic treatment of primary and secondary sources, as well as the emphasis on the living testimonies of research subjects. Epistemological and reflexive consciousness, along with fruitful interaction with historical and social disciplines, is manifest, within a perspective of the unity of the human sciences.

Narrativas Antropológicas was established in 2017 on the initiative of researchers from the DEAS, with the purpose of providing a space to address relevant issues for our work and share anthropological narratives developed from fieldwork or reflection on ethnography. In addition to works by academics, testimonies from their interlocutors are published, and various formats of textual and graphical presentation are accommodated.

Frequency.

It is publihed twice a year in digital format and is open access, contributing to the circulation of ideas and the generation and exchange of knowledge. The submission of proposals for inclusion in the journal is free, and there is no monetary cost for publication, reading, or downloading of materials.

Interested individuals should send their work to the email narrativas_antropologicas@inah.gob.mx, indicating which section their contribution is intended for. The characteristics and publication processes depend on each section of the journal:

Sections

a) Relatos: It will publish works resulting from original research that demonstrate ethnological, ethnographic, and social anthropological work, considering reflections on what the everydayness of human existence means for both actors and researchers. The Editorial Board will evaluate their relevance and submit them to external assessments, preserving the anonymity of authors and reviewers. Proposals should be submitted in Word format 97 or later, with a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25 pages, one and a half spaced, in Arial 12 font, with 3 cm margins on each side, footnotes, Chicago citation system. Images in TIFF or JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi in letter size, abstracts in Spanish and English with a maximum of 180 words, five keywords (different from those in the title), with authorship data, and if the work is not by the author, the document accrediting publication permissions must be attached.

b) Miradas: This section will present audiovisual dossiers and visual anthropology essays. Reviews are not required, but the material needs to be evaluated in technical terms and academic relevance, according to the journal's profile. If accepted, the files will be published in the journal, and links to other websites will not be accepted. Contributions can be of two types:

Photographic Series: An introduction in the form of text, ranging from a minimum of one page to a maximum of three pages, one and a half spaced, Arial 12 font with 3 cm margins on each side, will be included. The images should be sent in the following format: TIFF or JPEG with a resolution of at least 300 dpi in letter size and must include authorship data. If the images are not the work of the author, it is necessary to attach a document accrediting authorization for publication.

Video: It will include an introductory text of one to three pages explaining who, when, where, and how the video recording was made, as well as the context (celebration, interview, etc.) and what type of material it includes (music of, interpretation of, voices of, filming of celebration, or as appropriate). The introductory text will be a minimum of one page and a maximum of three, one and a half spaced, Arial 12 font with 3 cm margins on each side. The video must be sent in the following format: MPEG-4 and must include authorship data. If the video is not the work of the author, a document accrediting authorization for publication must be attached.

c) Voces: This section is dedicated to interviews, testimonial narratives with minimal intervention by the researcher, and other works that the Editorial Board considers relevant. Reviews are not required, but the material needs to be evaluated in technical terms and academic relevance, according to the journal's profile. The works presented for this section can have one of the following formats:

Text: Word format 97 or later, with a minimum of five and a maximum of 15 pages, one and a half spaced, Arial 12 font with 3 cm margins on each side, footnotes, references or sources, if any, in the Chicago citation system, images in TIFF or JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi in letter size, and must include authorship data. If the images are not the work of the author, it is necessary to attach a document accrediting authorization for publication.

Audio: It will include an introductory text explaining who, when, where, and how the sound recording was made, as well as the context (celebration, interview, other) and what type of material it includes (music of, voices of, or relevant). The introductory text will be a minimum of one page and a maximum of three, one and a half spaced, Arial 12 font with 3 cm margins on each side. The audio must be sent in the following format: MP3 and must include authorship data. If the audio is not the work of the author, a document accrediting authorization for publication must be attached.

d) Perspectivas: Theoretical approaches and methodological approaches related to ethnology, ethnography, and social anthropology are considered in this section only in written form (they can include images, in TIFF or JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi in letter size), with an extension of between 15 and 25 pages. The Editorial Board will evaluate their relevance and subject them to double-blind external assessments.

e) Debates: This section is fundamentally dedicated to establishing academic dialogue with works published in the journal. Contents presenting different or complementary perspectives to the published arguments will be privileged, whether in theoretical, methodological terms, or adding ethnographic evidence. If approved for publication, the text will be sent to the author of the article for a response comment. If applicable, both texts will be published together.

Under no circumstances will works containing disqualifications, personal criticisms, adjectives, or ironies be considered, given that the text has satisfied the journal's review process. Proposals should be submitted in Word format 97 or later, with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 8 pages, one and a half spaced, in Arial 12 font, with 3 cm margins on each side, footnotes, Chicago citation system. Images in TIFF or JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi in letter size, with authorship data, and if the work is not by the author, the document accrediting publication permissions must be attached.

f) Reseñas: Reviews of books, theses, audiovisual materials, exhibitions, photographic essays, academic activities, and other anthropological works, not older than three years, may be included. Exceptionally, reviews of older works may be included if the author argues their contemporary relevance. It should include the following aspects: general objective of the text being reviewed, contributions of the work to the knowledge of Ethnology, Ethnography, or Social Anthropology, criticism of the work, brief conclusion. The length will be between four and seven pages. If possible, an image of the material being reviewed should be included, in TIFF or JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi in letter size.

Author Information.

All contributions, regardless of the section they apply to, should include the following information in a separate document: author's name, institution where they work or study, address, landline or cellphone number, email address, ORCID registration, information on sponsorship received from any public or private entity for the total or partial realization of the research or work, and a 10-line curriculum vitae.

Assessment.

The Editorial Board will send the received works for the "Relatos" and "Perspectivas" sections to two external evaluators for assessment, preserving the anonymity of both the author and the reviewer (double-blind). If approved, the author will be notified, and if applicable, corrections and modification suggestions will be presented; recommendations made by the reviewer or the Editorial Board will be submitted for the author's consideration. Contributions will be reviewed and edited in accordance with the guidelines for original presentation specified below.
