Abstract

The essay analyzes the evolution of materials and structural systems for tall buildings throughout the twentieth century. It shows how advances in the technology of construction systems and studies carried out by Mexican researchers on soil mechanics and seismic design have permitted the creation of increasingly taller buildings in Mexico City.
