Special Issue: Studies on Fishing and Maritime Transport
Call for Papers:
Narrativas Antropológicas, a journal dedicated to disseminating ethnographic research and anthropological reflections, invites researchers to submit analyses, reflections, life stories, chronicles, and other perspectives that explore scenarios related to studies on fishing and the sea.
Theme:
The proposal for a monographic issue on fishing and maritime studies emerged from seminars held in Mexico and Spain in collaboration with academic institutions and research centers such as El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (ECOSUR), Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero, Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del IPN (CINVESTAV), UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, and AECID Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo. These meetings have established valuable connections for research and innovation related to fishing (its practices and ways of life) and contemporary economic systems.
The Editorial Board of Narrativas Antropológicas believes this monographic issue will be of great interest due to its interdisciplinary and international approach. We seek contributions from both established and emerging authors engaged in research on fishing and maritime life. This call aims to make visible the various ways of life connected to fishing, explore fisheries governance, and deepen our understanding of the marine environment and its challenges, promoting conservation and sustainable development through appropriate institutional policies.
It is essential to address the complexity of fishing systems, including both artisanal and deep-sea fishing, and evaluate their sustainability in the face of threats or synergies, such as the protection of marine natural spaces. We are also interested in exploring aspects related to maritime heritage, living memory, and conservation, as well as the influence of new generations on fishing and other activities such as tourism and neo-heritagization.
