Abstract

The map-sheet measures 41.5 cm long and 29 cm tall and is part of a group of sheets that are part of the Historia Tolteca-Chichimeca (a manuscript with close to fifty sheets) that was made known by the Italian historian-collector Lorenzo Boturini Benaducci. The manuscript probably dates to before 1532. It is a document that refers to the ancestral borders of the first settlers in the Valley of Puebla; however, the information in the glyphic drawings is multivalent in terms of its deeper meaning and the events it describes. The manuscript is a document that expresses in its full splendor the characteristics of traditional indigenous writing, for instance in its treatment of space.
